Our Process
First Contact
Whether our first contact is by email, phone or text, we will arrange some time to talk with you to better understand your needs. We will discuss treatment options and whether we have a therapist that is a good fit for you. If not, we are happy to recommend other providers.
Assessment Session(s)
The first 1-3 sessions are the assessment phase of therapy. We gather as much information as possible about your concerns, their history and what you have tried to address them. During this process, we will discuss our impressions of your situation and recommend a course of treatment and/or action. While it is hard to predict how treatment progress because there are so many variables, we will give you some idea of what to expect going forward.
Ongoing Process and Feedback
Assuming that your treatment involves ongoing sessions, the therapist will check in with you frequently to ensure that your concerns are being met. Discussing the process of therapy with you directly is not only good customer service, it is an essential ingredient of good therapy.
Ending Therapy
While it is your decision alone to end therapy, it is useful to discuss this openly as part of the therapeutic process for several reasons:
-
If there are any concerns about your therapy, we may be able to address them
-
The process of ending is a way to review progress on your goals and plan for the future
-
Being thoughtful about ending can help us think about other options for your continued growth
While therapy can go on indefinitely as a personal growth process, this should be a well thought out choice after specific areas of concern have been addressed.
